Living up to its deadly and dangerous reputation, this boldly striped yellow and black snake has venom that is more toxic than that of a cobra.  The most widely distributed sea snake species, it can be found in warm waters of the Pacific and Indian oceans where it feeds mostly on fish.

The coin is struck by The Perth Mint from 1oz of 99.9% silver in proof quality.

Issued as legal tender under the authority of the Government of Tuvalu, the obverse of the coin depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the monetary denomination and the 2013 year-date.

The coin’s reverse features a Yellow-Bellied Sea Snake in colour with a coral reef, star fish and other marine life in the background. The inscription AUSTRALIA’S YELLOW-BELLIED SEA SNAKE also appears in the design.

The coin is presented in a high-gloss timber display case and shipper emblazoned with the warning DANGER, and is accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.

No more than 5,000 Deadly and Dangerous – Yellow-Bellied Sea Snake 2013 1oz Silver Proof Coins will be released for sale worldwide.
